  16. ========

  18. If you run Windows NT Setup and your removable-media SCSI drive does
  19. not have any media in it, you will receive the following error
  20. message:
  21.  
  22.    An error occurred reading from or determining the configuration of
  23.    a hard disk drive attached to your computer. This may indicate
  24.    a hardware or configuration problem with a disk drive, disk
  25.    controller, or SCSI adapter.
  26.  
  27.    Check cabling and ensure that all disk controllers and SCSI
  28.    adapters installed in your computer are correctly configured and
  29.    terminated.
  30.  
  31.    If you have a SCSI device that is not a hard disk, ensure that it
  32.    is properly configured. For example, some SCSI adapters scan for
  33.    hard disks at SCSI IDs 0 and 1. If you have a CD-ROM drive set to
  34.    SCSI ID 0 or 1, try setting it to a different ID. Consult your SCSI
  35.    adapter documentation for more details.

  37. CAUSE
  38. =====

  40. This problem occurs because Windows NT Setup isn't removable
  41. hard-disk-media aware. When Setup receives the error when trying to
  42. read from the drive, it assumes the hard disk is bad.
  43.  
  44. RESOLUTION
  45. ==========
  46.  
  47. To work around this problem, ensure that there is media inserted into
  48. any removable hard-disk-type devices before running Setup.
